At Pieter Smit Group, we are looking for an entrepreneurial and results-driven Sales Director who will be responsible for building, professionalising and further developing our commercial organisation. You will help shape our commercial direction, bring structure to our sales approach and ensure that strategy is translated into clear objectives, concrete actions and sustainable results.

 

You will join a sales organisation that is evolving and ready to be further developed and shaped. In this role, you will have the autonomy and responsibility to take the sales organisation to the next level. You will establish a clear structure, define roles and responsibilities, set goals and KPIs, and make profitability a key driver of commercial performance.

 

You will develop a professional, international sales approach that works across our different European countries. You will directly manage IKAM and Country Sales Netherlands and provide functional leadership to the wider international sales organisation, including Country Sales and Business Unit Sales. In the Netherlands, you will have overall responsibility for managing and developing the Dutch sales team.

 

You combine strategic insight with a hands-on commercial approach and work closely with Planning, Operations and Finance to ensure that commercial commitments are successfully delivered.

For more than 45 years, Pieter Smit Group has specialised in entertainment logistics. With operations in six European countries and a fleet of more than 1,500 vehicles, we provide complete logistics solutions for theatre, concert and event tours.

 

Responsibilities

 

Commercial Strategy & Growth

  • Define and execute the commercial strategy and sales direction, with clear targets for revenue, profitability and margin, acquisition and market development, with profitability as a key priority.

  • Translate strategy into concrete commercial plans, KPIs and a clear structure for sales activities, follow-up and reporting.

  • Build and further professionalise the sales organisation by establishing clear processes, responsibilities and ways of working.

  • Actively develop new business, markets and customer segments within entertainment, sports and events.

  • Strengthen the commercial market position of Pieter Smit Group.

 

Sales Process & Performance

  • Develop and manage a clear and professional sales process, with defined stages, responsibilities and timely follow-up of commercial opportunities.

  • Manage performance based on KPIs, including the realised and expected profitability of individual projects, customers and the overall commercial portfolio.

  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks and escalations within the sales process.

  • Maintain and further develop a clear structure for weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting, follow-up and performance management.

 

Leadership & Organisation

  • Directly manage IKAM and Country Sales Netherlands.

  • Provide functional leadership to Country Sales and Business Unit Sales.

  • Lead, coach and develop the sales team, ensuring clear objectives and responsibilities.

  • Build a professional, international sales organisation and ensure that teams and countries operate within a clear commercial structure.

 

Relationship Management & Collaboration

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key customers, prospects and partners, both in the Netherlands and internationally.

  • Maintain direct relationships with key customers, together with IKAM and Country Managers.

  • Represent Pieter Smit Group at board and executive level during customer visits, trade fairs and networking events in the Netherlands and abroad.

  • Support key proposals, tenders and contract negotiations.

  • Work closely with Project Account Management, Sales Support, Planning, Operations and Finance.

  • A clear and professional sales structure is in place, with well-defined roles, responsibilities, objectives and ways of working.

  • The sales pipeline is strong, up to date and predictable.

  • Proposals and commercial opportunities are followed up in a timely manner.

  • The sales team works effectively together, has clear objectives and continues to develop.

  • New customers, markets and commercial opportunities are developed consistently.

 

Who are you?

You are an entrepreneurial, inspiring and results-driven commercial leader. You combine strategic thinking with a practical approach and know how to bring people together around a clear commercial direction.

  • Higher professional or university-level thinking and working ability (HBO/WO level or equivalent).

  • Extensive experience in a B2B sales leadership role.

  • Proven experience in sales strategy, commercial processes, KPIs and revenue growth.

  • Experience leading, coaching and developing a sales team.

  • Demonstrable international work experience and a proven ability to operate successfully across borders and cultures.

  • Analytical and experienced in managing performance based on KPIs, revenue, profitability and margin, and pipeline.

  • Collaborative, decisive and results-driven.

  • Affinity with logistics, transport or events is an advantage.

  • Excellent command of Dutch and English. A third European language is an advantage.

  • Willingness to regularly visit customers in the Netherlands and abroad.

 

What do we offer?

  • Salary: €7,000 to €9,500 gross per month, depending on experience.

  • A 12-month contract with the prospect of permanent employment.
